Rebel Merchants connects small-scale coffee and cacao growers with European specialty roasters and chocolate makers through ethical, transparent trade.

Direct Relationships

We want to meet with every roaster interested in our work to understand their needs and match them with a coffee that we can consistently supply year after year. Throughout this process, we actively encourage both farmers and roasters to learn from one another and build meaningful partnerships.

Direct Trade

For us, direct trade is defined by engagement, transparency, and the exchange of information. It is not only about buying and selling coffee, but about creating impact and enabling long-term planning.

Speciality Buyers

Every coffee has a story. This story is rooted in its origin—whether from a cooperative or a single farmer—and often extends to specific projects connected to the coffee, such as the Women’s Group of the Maya Ixil Cooperative.

We also consider whether certifications such as organic, Fairtrade, or Slow Food are important to you.

We focus on:
  • High-quality coffee

  • Strong, transparent relationships with growers

  • Measurable positive change over time

Year-to-Year Consistency

Once a roaster selects a coffee, we can commit to supplying it every year. While climate conditions may cause slight variations, the flavor profile remains consistent and recognizable over time.

Quality control:
  • Local management in each origin country

  • Careful lot separation

  • Continuous cupping

  • Final quality checks before shipment to the European Union

Financial Models

1. Pre-Financing (Pre-Pay)

You pre-pay for your coffee, and we source and import it directly from origin.

Funds are usually sent to growers or cooperatives at the beginning of the harvest (November–December). By joining the pre-financing process, you benefit from lower overall financing costs.

2. Commitment with Financing

You commit to a specific quantity and agree to use it within a defined time frame (6, 12, or up to 15 months).

We finance the coffee and include financing and storage costs in the final price.

3. Uncommitted Coffees

Approximately 15% of our imported coffees are uncommitted. These include:

  • New farmers or cooperatives

  • New or experimental lots

  • Surplus from established origins

These coffees are intended to spark interest and create new partnerships.
